My name is Matt Norton and I am a senior Professional Sales major at Kennesaw State University! I am eager to begin my semester long blog project about a topic of my choice. I am choosing to write about my favorite thing to pay attention to during the fall season, LSU Tigers football! Nothing beats a Saturday night in Death Valley (LSU’s home stadium). As I like to think of myself as well-versed on the subject, creating a blog and discussing it from week to week will certainly be something I enjoy. Before I dive into my topic I would like to give some background information about myself to allow my readers to better understand who I am as a person!
I was born and raised here in Marietta, Georgia, just a short drive over from Kennesaw and KSU. I attended high school at Lassiter High, Go Trojans! I chose to go to Kennesaw State because of it’s close proximity to home and my family, and also for their CRC or Collegiate Recovery Community. The CRC has served a great purpose in my time at KSU, allowing me to build friendships with people who live life similar to me, with sobriety. I have been sober for what will be 7 years come October 10. By the age of 16 I had already been through multiple rehabs and countless hours of counseling and therapy. My last stint in treatment I knew I needed to make a change and gave it my all, and here I am nearly 7 years later still going strong! My sobriety is the most important thing in my life and you may find tidbits about it on this blog from time to time because it is something I hold so close to my heart. I know I wouldn’t be here today without it.
Another huge part of my life, although far less exciting, is my job. I am a full-time bartender at a country club in Roswell, Georgia called Brookfield. I have been working at Brookfield for about 5 years and it has grown to be an awesome experience and opportunity. Some of my closest relationships have come through my work and I am thankful for that. Although I certainly do not plan to be a bartender for the rest of my life, it has helped serve as a wonderful stepping stone into where ever I choose to go following graduation. Not only have I gotten to know some good friends, but I have also been able to make many business connections and do a lot of networking by providing good customer service and taking pride in my work!
As I said before, I look forward to providing this blog for whomever chooses to read it throughout the semester! Now my readers have a little bit of background information about myself and we can catapult into next week following this weekend’s huge match-up between LSU and Texas. With both teams ranked in the top ten nationally, it should be a fantastic game! I look forward to touching base with you all next week!
